Experience description:

Fifteen months after the passing of my wife, of 25 years, I was experimenting with binaural-beats to deepen my new practice of meditation. I had taken up open-awareness meditation to help me overcome my deep grief. Using a binaural-beat generator, I created a theta brainwave induction process (sleep) and a delta (deep sleep) brainwave induction process. After mastering the theta process without falling asleep, I began using the delta process. During my second delta induction, I suddenly became aware the only conscious awareness I was experiencing was the awareness of having no other conscious awareness. I was in a sheltering dark void. I slowly became aware that my body felt like I was floating. I knew I was sitting, but I could feel no bodily pressure points. A wave of unexplained euphoria overwhelmed me without words of recognition or explanation. I began to feel like I was drifting toward some beautiful unknown place. I experienced looking down on a large grassland valley surrounded by foothills. There were several buffalo grazing in the valley. I saw a young Native American man standing on a distant foothill guarding a remuda of horses tethered to a long rope at the bottom of the foothill behind him. Then I experienced being in the body of the Native American and realized I am him and I am a Lakota Sioux warrior loved and honored by my tribe for my bravery. I looked down at my leather pant legs and moccasins. I felt, then saw the strands of my long black hair. I could see three-hundred sixty degrees around me and knew the Lakota native could not see what I was seeing. It was nearing nightfall and I saw two Pawnee Natives skulking among the horses, but I knew I was unable to warn the Lakota native. I knew the Pawnee were enemies of the Lakota and these natives were there to steal some horses. I saw my outstretched arms, as the Lakota native, wrapped a hairy buffalo hide around his shoulders. I left the Lakota's body and saw one of the Pawnee's unsheathe an arrow, load his bow, and let the arrow fly. The arrow pierced the buffalo hide and penetrated deep into the Lakota beneath his left shoulder blade. Blood gushed from the Lakota's mouth and nose as he fell dead. The next thing I witnessed was a young Lakota woman finding her man dead on the hill. She screamed his name that sounded like do-con or to-con. I knew at that moment she was the incarnation of my current deceased wife Renee and that we are soulmates. I wanted to ascend to the afterlife, but something was barring that.

I suddenly left that vision and entered a series of quick flashes of the Lakota's life before he was slain. Next I saw the Lakota sitting with a French trapper on stacks of pelts. We were drinking whiskey and he let me fire his muzzle-loader rifle at a tree. The recoil knocked me off the pelts and we laughed without sound. In the next vision, I was standing in the general store in aa small white-man's village. I handed the proprietor a bladder of gold nuggets and he handed me a burlap sack. As he counted and then put the nuggets in a register, I loaded the sack with whiskey bottles, ammunition, a powder-horn, and grabbed a musket. The angry proprietor approached me and tried to wrestle the musket from me. In the struggle he bashed me in the head with the musket butt. My head was bleeding as I pulled my knife out and stabbed him in the heart. I rolled him in a carpet and dragged his body behind the counter. I saw myself slowly ride my pinto horse out of the village. In the next flash vision, I was tethered to a tall maypole by long strands of leather strips attached to two sharpened eagle thigh bones piercing my skin just above my nipples. I knew I was doing the ceremonial Sundance to repent killing the proprietor and hopefully protect our tribe from revenge. In the last flash vision, I was riding my running pinto beside a running buffalo. I placed my hunting lance across my horse's neck and thrust it down into the buffalo's heart area killing it. I jumped off my horse, drew my knife, and cut the buffalo's throat. In the distance I saw my young soulmate waving. We both smiled as I returned her wave.

I left the vision and reentered the sheltering void. I once again experienced euphoria as I realized I was back at home, but didn't know what day it was, what room I was in, or what time of day it was. I felt the pressure points of being seated as I opened my eyes, looked at the clock, and saw I had been in this trance state for three hours. The one hour recorded delta induction had been off for two hours. My eyes welled with tears of joy and I laughed as I realized the vision revealed everything I've experienced thus far in life, was preparation for now knowing my true being, my purpose in life, and now how to fulfill my destiny. My grief was replaced by purpose driven wonderful memories of my soulmate and my renewed purpose in life as a professional and as a humane-being facilitating triumphs of the human spirit in everyone I encounter.

In the years that have followed this experience, I have experienced an abundance of synchronicities that validate my visionary experience is real. I researched Lakota boy names and discovered the name TUNKAN (Toon-Kahn) is Lakota for stone of creation. My name Stan, is very old English for stone. As a Vietnam era veteran who served as an infantry soldier, I went to the veterans administration for an Agent Orange Exam. I have a scar on my left lung below my shoulder blade. The doctor said this is typical of tuberculosis, but I've never had that disease. The scar is in the same place where Tunkan was shot by the arrow. As a very young child my playground was the forest and I had feather I put in a bandana around my head and I carried a rubber tomahawk. I've been a nature lover, a fisherman all my life, and was a hunter before being drafted in the army. I learned all kinds of animal calls and still call them today when I wade fish in Florida salt marshes. After pleading for years, at age twelve my father bought me a pinto horse that I broke and trained. There are many more synchronicities.

I was unable to enter a heavenly afterlife, but I feel experiencing my prior life is meant to serve my spiritual purpose in the rest of this life. I wonder if what I experienced as Tunkan is a reciprocation for Tunkan's possible NDE in seeing his future life as me with our soulmate.
