Experience description:

I was feeling ill for six months before I was admitted to the hospital by my PCP. After 3 days in the hospital I was so weak that I could no longer make my body sit erect. I thought I might as well leave so I found myself moving out of my body through the middle of my forehead or what I later found out to be called the "third eye" in some eastern religions.

The next thing I knew I was on the ceiling looking down on my body in the bed and said a farewell to myself. Then I found myself floating in outer space and thinking this is "so cool" I remember everything but I just don't have a body. The feeling I had can only be described as "liquid love". There was no fear or distress. I thought that all I have to do is think of somewhere I would like to go like Venus or Saturn and I would instantly be there.

All the stars were twinkling except one that felt like it was in a north west direction. It was a tiny pin light but super bright. I later found a bible verse where God said; "I live in the north west." I felt myself slowly moving towards this pin light when I heard a voice say; "Deborah." I knew it was Jesus Christ and answered; "Yes..." With a wonderfully tender and loving voice He said; "You have to go back." I said that I didn't want to go back but that I wanted to stay with Him. He said; "I know you do but you have to go back you have too much work to do." I thought work?, what work? I then said ; "But look at that body down there it is done, I can't even make it sit erect." He said, "Don't worry about that I will take care of that you just have to go back." I felt like He as coaxing me and the final decision was still up to me and I think because of God's love that's where free will comes in. Well, I didn't have much to say after that so I said; "Okay."

The next thing I knew it was the next day and I woke up feeling cured! I jumped out of bed and got dressed determined to go home. I was standing at the nurses' station asking them to call me a cab when they told me to go back to my room and they would call my doctor. He came a few hours later and ordered a blood test. He had warned me the day before that if I didn't get any better they would have to filter my blood.

He came back after the blood test and said; "I don't know what happened to you last night but your blood count just did a 500% improvement overnight." I knew but I thought if I told him he would think I was delusional. The blood test let me know that the NDE was real and not just a dream or vision. Sixteen years later I saw my PCP again and I told him the NDE. He said he hears stories like that all the time in the hospital!

From that day on my life was changed. I've felt an urgency not to waste one minute on this earth and to find out what work God wanted me to do. I have been working as an Art Therapist in a drug and alcohol rehab for the past 13 years and firmly believe that this is the work I was meant to do. I have no fear of death and whenever I hear that someone has died I feel jealous and long to be in that place of "liquid love."
