Experience description:

I was visiting my elderly parents; I had fallen asleep in bed, but awoke around 2am as there was a storm and the wind was blowing so hard I became concerned that the house roof may be damaged. Their house is quite old and I knew they had little money to make any repairs if it became damaged by the storm, so I decided to meditate about the weather. I lay on my back in bed and did some breathing exercises, then invited any other people who may be interested, to join me energetically in 'calming the weather.' I don't speak out loud to do this, I guess it's like sending a thought and intention out into the universe.

Well, I had been feeling the experience of this energetic 'joining' with like-minded people for a few minutes, and experienced that relaxed but expanded sensation I get with deep meditation. Then suddenly, I found myself moving from a lying position, to standing upright. I was wondering how my legs could be standing through the solid bed, when I started to move forwards, still upright, and quite fast. In those split seconds I braced myself for the impact of hitting the wall at the end of the bedroom, then the outer wall of the house, but no impact happened.

I shot straight through the house walls and straight out into the dark night. I travelled with such a speed that within milliseconds I could see the light change and I could feel the warmth of being propelled over a hot country, like Africa. As soon as my mind had caught up with what was happening to me, I panicked. I didn't understand what was happening and I was afraid that something bad might happen to me.

As soon as I panicked, I was back in bed in my physical body. I decided to meditate again for bit longer as it was still stormy, but as soon as I connected with other people's energy again, exactly the same thing happened and I found myself shooting through space. I panicked again, and returned to my body in bed. I decided not to meditate again and fell asleep after about ten minutes.

In the morning, I didn't tell my parents about my experiences, as they're not interested in things like that, not even meditation. I did ask them if they had heard anything unusual in the night (apart from the storm). I was wondering if I'd made some kind of noise shooting through the walls, but they hadn't heard anything.

I'd like to explore this experience again, but I'm a bit nervous and someone told me that it may be dangerous to leave your body in case another entity sneaks in. But I'm keen to find out more.

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?   No

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words?   No

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?   No

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?   Normal 'daytime' alertness of mentality, body deeply relaxed, but definitely not asleep.

Was the experience dream like in any way?   No.

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?   Uncertain   I think the locus of my awareness was within the 'lightbody' when it left the physical body, as I was aware of being in a standing position then aware of moving very quickly through space away from my physical body.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?    Fear - firstly because I thought it would hurt when I hit the wall, then because I've never experienced anything like that and didn't understand what was happening. Then I felt comforted by the fact that I returned to my physical body immediately when I started to panic.

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?    No.

Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?    No

Did you see a light?    Uncertain    I think I saw/felt the sunlight as I travelled over a hot country.

Did you meet or see any other beings?    No

Did you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state?   No

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?   No

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?    Uncertain    I could feel warmth on my body as I passed over a hot country; I think I could see space around me, but my physical eyes were closed. I could feel a sensation of moving with great speed, but it was more like a 'whooshing' rather than feeling the effects of gravity.

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?    Uncertain

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?    No

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?    No

Did you become aware of future events?    No

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?    Uncertain    I just returned as soon as I panicked.

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?    No

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?   Yes    I had a little about this kind of thing previously, I wanted to believe it, but I definitely believe it happens now.

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?    No change.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?   Uncertain    I'm more open minded, I realize there's a lot of 'stuff out there' I don't know about.

Have you shared this experience with others?    Yes    I told my friend a few days later, as she was the only person I knew who had an interest in such things. I asked her what had happened and she said it sounded like an astral travelling experience.

What was the best and worst part of your experience?   The best part was that it actually happened at all! I mean you get to nearly 50 and you think you've experienced pretty much everything life has to offer then...wow.

The worst part is that not many people I know have had similar experiences, and there's only a bit of literature about it, and you hear people warning you not to experiment with astral travel as it may have very negative consequences.

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?    No

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?    Yes
