Wendi C's Experience

Experience description:

Since the age of about sixteen years, I have intermittently had out of body experiences.  I have only spoken to two people about it as I feel it would be unbelievable to those who have not had such experiences.

The out of body experience occurs on waking.  I am fully awake and aware.  There are no bright lights, or anything which could be considered unusual.  I am floating at ceiling level and, able to look down upon myself in bed.  This lasts a short while, maybe, a couple of minutes, then I go back into my body.  At this point, although I am in my body, I cannot move and, I cannot speak.  I find this part frightening as, try as I might and despite a determination to move or, to cry for help from my husband, I cannot.  This paralysis lasts for a few minutes.  I then return to normal.

I have no warning when these episodes will occur.  They do not link in to any particular life event, illness, etc.  I have experienced them over more than three decades, but not for the last couple of years.  That said, the episodes happen in an irregular way and, sometimes with a number of years between them.

One of the people I mentioned this to was a close friend. She  was a staunch catholic.  She felt that it was in line with her teachings of an "astral" body.  My husband, who I have also told, is a little in disbelief.  Hence my discussing the situation with only two people!

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words?
No    Not difficult to express, but felt it would be unbelievable to others

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?   Fully aware

Was the experience dream like in any way?   No

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?   Yes   I am unaware of my form.  It would appear that it is just my consciousness/spirit which is floating.  My body appears perfectly normal, lying on the bed.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?    Calmness, curiosity, but also felt I should return to body

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?    Yes    Yes, in my bedroom. (Different bedrooms on different occasions, depending upon I lived at the time?.  No incredible creatures.  Everything totally normal

Did you see a light?    No

Did you meet or see any other beings?    No

Did you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state?   No

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?   No

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?
Yes    All senses appeared normal, but, my curiosity level was raised - wondered how this could happen.

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?    Uncertain    Maybe time seemed to stand still.

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?
Uncertain    I knew there was nothing wrong with the fact that I was able to look down on myself, but also realised I had to return to my body.

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?

Did you become aware of future events?
No    No, but I often have a sense of foreboding before something bad happens.  It can be quite overwhelming and, I feel I am shrouded in darkness.  Have also had  some quite extraordinary dreams, which unfortunately have come true

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?
Yes    Yes, conscious that I needed to return to body, to carry on with day to day life.

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?    Uncertain    Not immediately following such episodes, but have experienced visions of dead family, whilst being awake.  (Not frightening - totally calming)  Also, have had dreams which come true and, sometimes have a feeling of overwhelming foreboding, prior to something bad happening

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?    The  out of body experiences have not affected my life.  I do not discuss them.  I do, however, "listen" to my sense of foreboding.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?
With only two people - a close friend and, my husband.  Friend felt it was my "astral" body, my husband is totally skeptical

What was the best and worst part of your experience?   The ability to float, be aware and, know there was nothing wrong was best.  The worst part was the paralysis

Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?
Do not know if there is any connection between the out of body experience, the visions of family, the dreams which come true and, the sense of foreboding, prior to something bad happening.

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?    No

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?    Yes
