Experience description:

I was physically exhausted.  At the time, I was working two jobs, taking college classes and raising my three sons by myself.  So.. after a very long day, all I wanted to do was to go to bed.

Finally after laying down in my bed, I realized that nature was calling and I was trying to decide if I should go to the bathroom. My bed felt so good that I didn't want to get up.  However, I decided to go to the restroom first then go to sleep so that my rest would not be interrupted later.  I had not been asleep yet.

As I got up to go to restroom... I felt strange.  I looked down at my feet, legs and hands.. what I saw so amazed me.  I'm not sure exactly what I saw.  Some may call it the soul, spirit or over-self.. I'm not sure.  But what I saw was these lights had taken the place of my physical body.  The lights were nothing like we have here on earth.  Nothing in this world can compare.  They were quintessential in color.  The only words I can use to describe this is that they were alive, vibrational, pure.

After looking at the lights were my body was, I wondered how I was seeing this in the place of my body.  So, I looked down at where I just left.. my bed.  When I looked down, I received the shock of my life.  There laying in my bed... was ME.  I have never seen myself like that before.  I stared at my body and was disgusted.  I didn't want to go back into that body.  My consciousness was thinking.. "that thing is sooo tight and heavy.. I don't want to get back in there".  Then I questioned. "How am I seeing my body without my eyes?"  At that point, I just knew that I didn't want to continue a life of struggle.. and for some reason, just wanted to go home, although I was home.  Very strange.  So, I went to take off.  To leave that body.  But I didn't.  All of the sudden I was snapped back into my body.  After that, I got up and went to the restroom.

The colors I saw were beautiful, however, the only way I can describe my feelings of being placed back into my body was that of a Deep Sea Diver.  My consciousness was comparing it to a really thick, heavy Diving suit that people use to go Deep Sea Diving and living in that thing constantly.  It took me a few days after the event to actually accept that this body is mine.

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?     No

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? Yes     It is very difficult explaining the lights that I saw.  They are like nothing here that we can compare them to.

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          No

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?           I was alert.

Was the experience dream like in any way?   No

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Yes     My appearance is hard to describe, so I'll do my best.  It was like a web of colored lights.  The lights were alive, vibrational, pure, clear, colored.  The colors here on earth are dull and stale compared to those.  Even our high tech electrical lights do not compare to the lights of our souls, spirits...whatever they are.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            FREE from the body that kept me down here.  Free from gravity.  Wonderment.

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?           No.

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?    No

I just tried to leave but couldn't.

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?    No response

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?             Yes     I tried to leave the area of my body because I really wasn't going back.  But it wouldn't let me.

Did you become aware of future events?       No

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?       Yes     I wanted to leave my body permanently.  Something else put me back in my body.

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?         No response

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?   Yes     I now know for a fact, that we are not of the body.  Before I had this experience and when reading about OBE's or NDEs I would assume it was some form of Neurological problem.  However now I know that these really do exist because there is no way that I could have seen my limp body lying there unless my consciousness were someplace else.  I may have even let the experience of the lights go if I hadn't seen my body.  I saw my OWN EYES, my own body in a way that one could not see it without a mirror.

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?       Of course.  Now I study the metaphysical and Spiritual practices.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         Yes     I don't think anyone can have an experience like that without it effecting their life.

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes     The people who know me, know that I do not drink or use drugs in any way.  Some think that I'm special.  But I'm not.  Some think It was a dream.. just depends on the person.

What emotions did you experience following your experience?  I was upset because I was back in the heavy tight body.

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      The best was viewing the lights of my inner self.  The worst was viewing my body for what it was.  A shell.  And having to get back in there.

Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?        No, not really

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         No

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?               Yes
