Experience description:

This was my very first time: I knew I was half awake then, but I was still asleep. It was like I was too lazy to open my eyes, too lazy to even move a finger. Then I felt a vibrating sensation all over my body, accompanied by a very soft humming sound (soft probably because I wasn't paying much attention to it). The vibrations kept on for half a minute or so it seems.

Just then, I felt my hand (which was resting on my chest at that time during sleep) slide off naturally, like, due to gravity.  I could feel my hand and the part of my chest it was in contact with, but it was heavy, and kind of rubbery-like. Without even trying, I somehow knew that I couldn't move that hand, or any part of my body for that matter, if I tried. I waited to see what would happen, because I have heard of OBEs, and I thought that this was it. All this time, I was still feeling the vibrations.

Then I felt that I could move about, as in move upwards, its like I knew before I even tried, so I did, well kind of. I tried making myself go upwards (all the time I was in standard sleeping position eg. lying down. It never occurred to me to change positions) I think I did, but I wasn't sure. I was feeling the sensation of moving upwards(?) only, and I didn't see anything, its like I wasn't noting what I was seeing (or not seeing). Then my mom woke me for school and I felt sensation slowly return to my limbs (before that I couldn't move anything).

There's this other time, which was freaky-scary. I was really really tired and it was about three am so I shut off the lights and lay down on the floor to rest, when all off a sudden, I felt the vibrations coming on really strongly. It was so strong that I felt myself ready to 'take off' any moment. (I think I was on the verge of dropping off) I didn't want that to happen and tried to stop it. I tried willing myself NOT to feel the vibrations but that didn't work. So I shut my eyes and clenched my hands and tensed my body really hard and WILLED the sensations to go away. They did eventually and I fell asleep.

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?     No

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? No

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          No

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?           Almost awake/ almost asleep.

Was the experience dream like in any way?   No. I was aware all the time.

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Uncertain

My consciousness was floating upwards with the rest of 'me'. I'm not sure.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            Interesting.

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?           No.

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?    No

Did you see a light?           No

Did you meet or see any other beings?           No

Did you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state? Uncertain

There's this other time when I tried inducing those 'vibrations' (ref to qn.4). It was afternoon but the curtains were closed, so it was pretty dark in the room. I was lying down and trying to half fall asleep, you know, get that half awake feeling. I began slowly to feel the vibrating sensation. Then I tried to move upwards. I think i did, and then I tried to rotate around (I was still in the lying down position) because I wanted to see me sleeping. I couldn't because my eyes were shut (same with the experience in qn.4, my ocular organs didn't seem to register anything). So I think I turned around but I didn't see anything.

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          No

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?          Yes

I just felt really really light, like I was floating upwards, like I was filled with helium, and I couldn't float downwards even if I wanted to. Sight ref to ans.12. Smelt nothing. Tasted nothing. (smelling and tasting never occurred to me) Heard humming.

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   Uncertain

I was like in 'dream space' where I felt nothing physical can touch me, like if someone threw a hammer at 'my' head it would like, I don't know, pass through 'me' or something, but I know definitely it would have no effect on 'me'.

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?    No

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?             Yes

I reached the ceiling (I felt that is, remember I couldn't see much?) and tried to pass through it. I couldn't. In the sense I was like a helium filled balloon. I'm light, floating around, but I'm still not able to pass through 'material' things. But also, somehow, I knew I could, and something, maybe something mentally, was preventing me.

Did you become aware of future events?       Uncertain

Sometimes I would feel, when talking with my friends, or doing something, or seeing a scene on the streets etc, that I have seen/done this while dreaming sometime before. Definitely dreaming, not like deja vu, although its kind of like deja vu.

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?       No

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?         No

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?   No

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?       None whatsoever.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         No

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes

I shared my first experience with one friend and she just said something along the lines of 'oh okay.' Then I asked her about her experiences. She said she didn't have any and the subject was dismissed.

What emotions did you experience following your experience?  Weird. Have to try it again. Scared.

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      None

Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?        Is there a possibility of not being able to return to one's body after an OBE?

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         Yes

When half awake, I tried to imagine feeling the vibrating sensation, and when I do, I try to make myself move. Which works.

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?               Yes
