Experience description:

I was asleep and dreaming I was among a group of people, sitting and talking. I was aware of a woman around my age or slightly younger (mid- to late-20's) standing alone across the room from me. Her long, dark hair was pulled up in a high, tight ponytail, and she wore a pale pink tank top with blue jeans and sneakers. Not unlike many made-up dream characters, she was no one I knew or recognized; she appeared to be mildly observing her surroundings. Out of nowhere, the people and all the scenery of the dream vanished.

Everything "dream-made" just dissolved, revealing in its place my "real" bedroom - where only she and I now remained. Our exact locations had stayed intact, but I now found myself staring at her across the room from my position in bed. I became instinctively aware that my physical body lay sleeping, but my mind/spirit/soul was wide awake and now on *extreme* high-alert. Making eye contact, I sensed her also assessing the sudden change in the situation, and at the same time, a full and complete assessment was instantaneously quickened to me as well: she acknowledged me to be a living, breathing human being (suitable to meet a personal need of hers); I recognized her as the disembodied spirit of someone recently passed (unwilling or unable to move on) that was desperately in search of a vehicle (body) to "get back to life" in. I quickly registered that I was in danger...when she pounced! Like an animal, in a FLASH she was at my bedside, violently attacking and wrestling my spiritual body - for possession of my physical one! I lost the ability to visibly see her, but had a steady grip on her, squeezing her upper arm to forcibly hold her back, and I could feel her flesh beneath my touch: eerily real, distinctly human, and seemingly very much alive. We fought and wrestled (soul to soul) for several long, fearful moments, until she either tired or surrendered, or was forced to give up. Just as quickly as it started, it was over. I was immediately wide awake, albeit shaken, feeling quite indignant - violated, even!

Was this experience difficult to express in words?  No

Did you ONLY sense an awareness of presence of the deceased without actually seeing, hearing, feeling or smelling them?            No

Did you hear the deceased or hear something associated with the deceased?          No

Did you feel a touch or experience any physical contact from the deceased?            Yes

Grabbed, wrestled, pushed and pulled

Was the touch familiar or unfamiliar?   Familiar - was like fighting or wrestling anyone.

Was anything communicated by the touch?  Her wanting to possess my body for her own - it was awful! I felt I was fighting for my life.

Is there any possibility what you felt was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?  No way.

Did you see the deceased?         Yes

Described above. Once contact was made, she became invisible - but I could still feel her physically.

How clearly did the deceased appear?            First solid, then invisible.

How much of the deceased did you see?       All and then nothing.

Did the deceased appear or not appear to be the age at which they died?       Probably?

How healthy did the deceased appear to be?            Healthy. I got the "sense" it was an accidental and premature death; perhaps a drug overdose.

Is there any possibility what you saw was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?           No

Did you smell a distinct smell, scent, fragrance or odor associated with the deceased?      No

How long did the experience last?        5-10 minutes

Was the beginning and end of the experience gradual or more sudden?         Started gradually...became sudden and urgent, and ended somewhat abruptly.

Could you sense the emotions or mood of the deceased?           Yes

Mild curiosity...recognition...want/need...determination...desperation.

Did the deceased give you information you did not previously know?  Just surprise at the whole event.

How do you currently view the reality of your experience?           Experience was definitely real

Please explain why you view the reality of your experience as real or not real:           I simply know that I know.

Was the experience dream like in any way?   Yes

Only in the beginning when it was a dream; once I became aware I knew I was not dreaming, even though my physical body was asleep my consciousness was absolutely alert.

Describe in detail your feelings/emotions during the experience:            Fear...worry...anger...violation...desperation/determination.

Was there any emotional healing in any way following the experience?           No

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      The worst - feeling as though my body could be taken from me - or replaced with someone else's spirit, and not knowing what would have happened to mine in that case. Also, afraid that she could have "entered" without pushing me out, and I'd have to share my body?!? Very weird stuff. Best is, I like these tidbits of validation that there is more beyond this material life.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         Uncertain

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
   Uncertain

Did the experience give you any spiritual understandings such as life, death, afterlife, God, etc.?  Yes            Made me feel even more certain of life after death. Made me realize there are many paths/situations/events that can occur beyond this physical life that I never considered!

Death Compacts are when two or more living people promise among themselves that whoever dies first will try to contact the other(s).  Have you ever made such a compact?        Yes

With my Grandmother, who is an unbeliever, told her I would find her if I went first to "show" her...and that if she went first she would come to me. Also with my husband, that we would communicate somehow.

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          No
What emotions did you feel during the experience?            Angry and violated, then victorious but concerned. Since then I have felt bad for this stranger, and have prayed that she would find/rest in peace.

Was the experience witnessed or experienced by others?           No

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   Yes

Altered space. I never realized dreams took place in the air around you, not "inside your head" or that spiritual beings could actually be "apart of" or "view" your dreams.

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?    Yes

Wouldn't you after something like that?

Did you become aware of future events?       No

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?         Uncertain

No more or less than prior. But after, I did have two other non-violent "ghost" encounters.

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Uncertain

Separate, but still right there.

Did you meet or see any other beings other than the deceased?      No

Did you see a light?           No

Did any part of your experience seem to occur in a place other than the location described above?            No

Have you shared this experience with others?

Yes     Some interested, some eye-rolling.

Have you shared this experience formally or informally with any other researcher or web site?   No

Were there any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?            No

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         No

Did you ever in your life have a near-death experience, out of body experience or other spiritual event?           Yes

OBEs as a child; many spiritual events throughout my lifetime; no NDE.

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?               Yes
