Pam V's Experience

Experience description:

I was in labor for 30+ hours with my first and only child. Needed emergency C-section due to drop/stopping of my baby's heart rate. I was awake during the surgery (epidural). When I was laid flat on my back, my own heart went haywire and they couldn't stabilize me to begin the procedure. I was thrashing around and could not relax or do anything to control my heart. I went in and out of consciousness. My heart went into a bad arrhythmia due to compression of the aorta when placed flat on my back (I'm a very small person and the baby compressed it).

During some point in time, I started to hear the Lord's prayer in my head. At first I thought I was just praying to myself, but I heard multiple voices (men and women) saying the prayer. After a short amount of time, my heart stabilized for the staff to bring my husband in to watch and begin the procedure. One of the nurses commented that it was really odd.

I didn't think much of it until I learned that my aunt had started a prayer circle at the same time this incident occurred. I figured it must explain hearing multiple voices reciting the Lord's prayer.

My experience directly resulted in:   Moderate changes in my life

Did you have any changes in your values or beliefs after the experience that occurred as a result of the experience?
Yes

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience?   Uncertain   I had premonitions when I was younger. Majority were bad events though. Very unsettling. No change after this event, but incidents of premonitions have decreased as I have gotten older.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you?
I did not learn about the prayer circle that my aunt started with her church until a few years after this event. When I did find out and then put 2+2 together, I felt closer to a very religious deceased family member in a way that I cannot explain. I swear this family member is watching over me.

Have you ever shared this experience with others?
Yes  10-15 years later, mainly family members. Most were intrigued. One totally believed and increased this person's faith even further.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?   Yes   When I was much younger, due to my previous experiences with premonitions, I researched parapsychology and attended workshops to learn more.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:   Experience was probably real   I didn't think much about it until I later learned about the prayer circle. After that, I AM CONVINCED BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT that what happened was real, and that divine intervention occurred to save both my and my child's life.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience at the current time:   Experience was definitely real   See above.

Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your experience?   No   Try to help family members who have strayed from the church to think about their faith again. I do not attend church at this time. Several of the churches that I joined made me feel that they are hypocritical and many "ministers" are enjoying a tax free life, totally abusing the system and are not true messengers of God. As a result, I pursue my faith on my own.

Just my opinion...

Have your religious beliefs/spiritual practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?   Yes   See above

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience?   No

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience?   It truly changed my perspective of good and evil and heaven and earth. I have also had two other incidents that I feel were near death experiences that as a scientist I cannot define or quantify.

Did the questions asked and information that you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?   Uncertain   My experience wasn't a vision, but auditory. Still I believe it was a true near death experience.

What could a national organization with an interest in near death experience (NDE) do that would be of interest to you?       Assist me in understanding what happened and perhaps convince me that I'm not crazy for believing.
