Experience description:

When I was five years old, I went to the hospital for a noninvasive surgery, in which I was anesthetized with ether. After the surgery, I was returned to my hospital room to recover and regain consciousness. Well prior to regaining consciousness, at least in the physical body, I had an out-of-body experience in which I suddenly found myself floating on the ceiling. My bed ran alongside a wall with the head-end up against a corner. Apparently, my spirit-body floated up into that corner and then about five feet along the ceiling of the opposite wall that came out from that same corner.  That's where I was when I became aware of my presence up there.

I was facing up towards the ceiling and became aware that I was enclosed in what could best be described as an abundantly illuminated, white and puffy cloud. However, it wasn't just white. It was imbued throughout with a soft shade of pink. It was so comfortable and comforting. I realized after awhile that the cloud was actually my own essence. I guess  you could call it my spirit-body, but it was actually me, my own disembodied essence; although, I didn't realize that I was disembodied, nor was I the least bit concerned about it. In fact, on the contrary. I did have a specific orientation in space, however, that correlated with my physical body, in the sense that I actually became aware of my head, neck, and shoulders, but they seemed to be more subtle than my physical body and were embedded within my pink/white cloudlike essence.

It's amazing how intact my personality was because immediately my childlike curiosity and sense of adventure was spurred, just like it would have been in my physical body. I was a very active and energetic child, always on the go and that didn't change a bit in this state. So the first thing I wanted to know was if I could see the boy who was in the next bed from a birds-eye point of view. He was about my age and his bed ran alongside the same wall as my bed with the head end of his bed beginning where the foot end of my bed ended. However, they were separated by a curtain that hung down from a curtain rod that came out from the wall between the beds with about a foot between the ceiling and the top of the curtain rod. At the moment, the curtain was drawn closed between our beds. In total childlike enthusiasm, I decided to answer my question of whether or not I could see him from the ceiling, so like a frog maneuvering itself in water from it's hind legs, I turned myself in two different directions.

I turned myself face down first because that was the only way I'd be able to look down on him, and then I turned my head in the opposite direction and headed back towards the corner and then turned the corner along the opposite wall. Now I was passing over my own bed but didn't think to look down, mainly because it didn't occur to me that there might be a body to look at down there because I felt fully and completely intact. So I passed over my own bed and headed toward the curtain and pulled myself over the top between the rod and the ceiling and then stopped and looked down. And sure enough, there he was, lying face-up in his bed, neatly tucked under white sheets with the rolling meal cart pulled across his bed with his eyeglasses sitting on it. Once I accomplished this feat, I must have returned to my physical body because that was the end of my adventure.

Greetings. Yesterday I submitted my account on your website about my OBE experience from when I was five years old that included my looking down on the bed of the little boy next to me. There is one section of the story, however, that I'm ambivalent about and would like to edit if  that's still possible. It's the part about my identifying a pair of eyeglasses on the meal cart that went across his bed. Well I've thought about it since I submitted the story, and although I was able to identify specifically what was on the cart at the time of the event, I have since forgotten exactly what it was, but for some reason, I keep coming up with the idea that it was a pair of glasses. However, it may also have been a toy or a book or something along those lines. The reason I think it's important to clarify this is that I view it as being a pretty important detail or piece of evidence that I do not want to misrepresent.

Thank You,

Jeanette H
