Experience description:

In my 1st account. It was a Sunday night in  time running up to Christmas. My auntie had called around and she asked mum for something I can't remember what. But I knew where it was. I went charging upstairs and found the item. On my way back down the stairs I suddenly became aware that not only could I see where I was going thru my eyes, I was watching myself descend the stairs from below. It all seemed to be in slow motion until I was greeted by my auntie who made my jump, and then I was one again.

Another time I was in the playground at my secondary school and I was talking 2 my friends when I was aware that I could see myself from one of the classroom windows. I tried to control it this time as it was more familiar to me, but when a friend tapped me on the shoulder I was one once more.

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?     No

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? Yes     at the time I couldn't really explain it but as I read about it in a book I knew what the experience was. I had had them twice before and once since.

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?           very well. I was in school and at home wide awake and active.

Was the experience dream like in any way?   sort of but I knew I was in school, and at home doing normal things at the time and to everyone else I appeared normal. they were unaware of what was happening, so much so that my sister recalls the incident at home, but only years later did I tell her what happened, and she still remembers me talking and acting normal.

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Uncertain      my "real self" couldn't see my separated self at the foot of the stairs, but my separated self could see my "real self" descending the stairs. I looked and felt normal.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            strange but calm.

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?           no

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          Yes     I asked my sister about the incident, because my auntie was about 2 scare my mum with a mask, and she made me jump 1st unintentionally. my sister laughed about it for years.

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?          No

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?          No

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?       No

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?       not a lot really.  have mentioned it to people, I did start to meditate a little to try and start it myself but it never worked, I just had calm and lovely sleeps.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         No

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes     some believed me. some got scared, saying that it could mean I could talk 2 the dead. another auntie showed me the relaxation techniques 2 help me control things.

What emotions did you experience following your experience?  mixed, fascination. a little fear, curiosity.

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      not knowing what it meant was hard. Not having it happen again so I could explore further made me sad.

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         I had the same thing happen a few times (explained above)

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?               Yes

Please offer any suggestions you may have to improve this questionnaire.    no!
