Experience description:

I found myself upright, outside, at night and down the street, around the corner (the way I would walk to school).  I opened my eyes and I couldn't believe it.  I had the sensation I was floating, and I wanted to see whether I had legs, so I looked down at my feet and saw that I was floating about 6 inches off of the sidewalk.  There was a gentle "whooshing" sound in my ears that I eventually realized was connected to how fast I was moving.  I looked around and was amazed by the vividness of everything.  The houses, plants, trees, everything was outlined with a glow.  The light seamed to radiate from within each thing.  It was SOOOO beautiful, it really goes beyond description.  I realized I could "will" myself forward and LOVED the sensation.  I had the sense of a being watching over me. (behind me?) but, I didn't really care.  I loved the sensation of moving, so I began to move forward quickly into the dark sky.  I somehow knew that I was not supposed to do this, but I did it anyway in a little bit of a defiant manner.  I don't know what happened next, but that was the end of the experience.  I remember having terrible stomach ache pain (the next day?) I seem to associate that with the experience, but I don't know if there was any relationship.  I never told anyone until adulthood.

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?     No

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? Yes

There are not really words to describe it that I know of.  When I try to say or explain it out loud, it sounds ridiculous or crazy.  To say it was "incredible" doesn't do it justice.

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          No

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?           more awake, alert and conscious than I am right now.

Was the experience dream like in any way?   only that it happened at night, and it was an experience I couldn't explain

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Uncertain

I never say my physical body, but I did check to see if I did have a body, and I did

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            Incredible joy and peace and contentment

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?           There was a "whooshing" sound in my ears that seemed to be connected to how fast I was moving

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?    Yes

I was in the place where I walked every day as a child to school. (It was as though I was walking home)

Did you see a light?           No, not other that the light illuminating from everything around me

Did you meet or see any other beings?           No

Did you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state? Uncertain

Only that I tried to will myself into the sky

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          No

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?          Uncertain

Yes, but I'm not sure how to explain it.

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   Uncertain

Maybe, again, I not sure how to explain

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?    Uncertain

I think so.

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?             Yes

I knew I was not supposed to race into the sky, but I tried to anyway.  That's when the experience ended.  The "Being" watching over me was maybe a little disappointed.  I can't explain how I know that, I just do.

Did you become aware of future events?       No

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?       No

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?         No

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?   Uncertain

It's possible, I think it may have been more subtle... over time...

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?       I tried over and over as an adult to recreate the experience without success. For years I was into wanting to know the future, what it all meant and looking for deeper meaning.  I have learned SO much about grace and acceptance of others.  I am now very fulfilled in my job as a coordinator of Children's Ministries.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         Yes, probably

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes

Very few people.  My husband, two of my children, my friend (who's into these things) and one other friend.  They were supportive, but I had some regret about telling them afterward.  There is just no way to explain it with justice.

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      Realizing I could fly! The beauty!

Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?        just that I know it really happened.  It's been more than 30 years and I can still "remember" it (feel it) like it was yesterday.

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         No

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?               Yes, I think so, as best as possible
