Experience description:

About 6 times in two months, when in bed trying to sleep, felt my body suddenly paralyzed and a strong frightening noise in my ears. Tried to move and wake my partner besides me but completely unable.

Then a loud "pop" sound, feeling like flesh ripped of my body and suddenly legs floating, like pulled up by something and then rest of body out. Each time find myself exactly  room in front of the bed where I lay down (sometimes my own, sometimes my daughter's, sometimes the sofa). Seeing each time the furniture and objects around like lit from inside (by themselves) I felt everything had its own light and sound as well. Tried to move, just thinking about going down the corridor and then being "sucked" to the place at an amazing speed.

Feelings of lightness, I could think incredibly clearly, everything seemed much more real than reality. Sort of concepts or information about life and its purpose coming to my mind.  Everything around recognizable but with funny distortions. Sometimes some object or shape I wouldn't recognize. I could not see clearly my body lying down but could feel the shape somewhere there. I could perceive though the body of my partner bed.

Then suddenly back and sit up in my bed sweating, not understanding what happened, quite frightened to go back to sleep for some days.

It's happened about six seven times since then and not so frightening anymore though I can't control the process voluntarily.

Also find that depending on my previous emotional state or types of thought the experience can be pleasing or terrifying.

Most striking the quality and clarity of consciousness and the vividness of feeling. When it happens it seems as "this reality" is a dream. And you don't find important the things that you usually care about during the day.

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?     No

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? Yes

I cannot describe the vividness of consciousness or feeling or sensation. The way things look lit up "from inside" or the different sense of identity unlike the day to day way of functioning. It felt, this is real, the rest is a hallucination !

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          No

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?           Amazingly increased and vivid.

Was the experience dream like in any way?   Not at all. In one occasion after it started it seemed to turn into a normal dream. Felt like if I lost consciousness.

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Yes

I could not see anything like a body, but rather a felt like a floating point the size of a pea or a fleece (tiny), but retaining the feeling of my body without seeing it.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            Sometimes lightness, fullness, happiness, joy. Once or twice fear and terror. I thing it depended on my state of mind or emotions after the events of each particular day.

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?           Yes, roaring, a voice calling, buzzing, dripping

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?    No

Did you see a light?           Uncertain

Not exactly, I saw my usual surroundings lit mysteriously at night (with all lights off), like if they had their own light, not like the sun light, not like artificial light, but like their "own" inherent light. I cannot explain better.

Did you meet or see any other beings?           Uncertain, Sometimes a shape or sort of body, just around, do not know who or why.

Well the first time I saw my youngest daughter (at the time 3) by the window and remember thinking to myself: she must be out dreaming (I wouldn't have thought such thing a couple of hours earlier!!). When I got back first thing I did was run to her bed where I found her deeply asleep.

Did you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state? Yes

I tried the second time, I thought: I want to visit such person, but I wasn't able. I was like swept back to where I went to bed! I haven't tried since.

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          Yes

I saw a computer screen in my studio on (distorted though, I did not recognize what it was at first, it seems like you see through a fish bowl). Then when back I checked and it was on. I had forgotten to turn the power off.

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?          Uncertain

Sight: much light but things familiar funnily distorted, like in Alice in Wonderland.

Hearing: very vivid.

Touch: not really, but felt sensations like in my inside.

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   Yes, It seemed a long time but must have been a couple of minutes.

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?    Yes

That life is sacred. It is the greatest opportunity to acquire knowledge (not in the text book sense, but wisdom and realizing our purpose). We are here to learn, to love, to learn to love and to teach what we learn. It seemed like "many people"? where waiting for this chance but not everybody has the opportunity when they want. Therefore when we get the chance is precious.

Change in values. More time for living and less for earning.

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?             Yes, The walls of my flat. Did not seem able to go out.

Did you become aware of future events?       No

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?       Yes

Yes when I was frightened I thought, please I want to go back and so it happened.

When the experience was pleasant, trying to control it pulled me back.

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?         Uncertain

Well some kind of telepathy with certain people or intuitions about things.

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?   Yes

As described before.

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?       Some people say I'm dreaming, only one person believes me, so I don't talk about it much at all because my nearest relations seem frightened about it and tend to think it's stress or some malfunctioning of the brain.

Interested about spirituality, evolution and levels of consciousness, purpose in life, and learning about life and death, true meaning of all, mechanics of life (not in a physical sense, but metaphysical)

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         Uncertain

In a general vision of things yes, but not in the day to day life.

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes

One understanding and supported in his own beliefs. The rest suspicious, or just don't want to talk about the subject, or treat me like a bit "funny".

What emotions did you experience following your experience?  Excitement, need to share the experience and every concept that came to my mind through them.

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      The best: experiencing we are not just our body. What's more, the body seems like a pair of glasses that block somewhat real perception.

The worst: not being able to control the experiences, where to go, what to do, how I felt.

Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?        That I am very glad to see there are many cases, since I had not read about it and I have never taken any drugs or substances, so the cause must be natural. Probably has to do with a certain level of consciousness I Think. I had been told it could be sleep apnea or eating cheese in the evening.

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         No

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?               Yes

Please offer any suggestions you may have to improve this questionnaire.    I cannot think of any now. I thing the questionnaire is quite complete.
