Experience description:

My experiences were frequent, and without control.  It always happened when I would first lay down to sleep at night.  Not every night.  Sometimes I might go a week or two without one, and then some weeks it would happen almost every other night.

I would lay down, and in just a matter of minutes and odd feeling would rush over me and it would feel very heavy.  It was like the force of demons were holding me down, I would start to fight against them, trying to get my hands free, trying to speak, but couldn't.  I would fight for what felt like several minutes until I broke free.

During these experiences I could see everything in the room, and clearly see that nothing was holding me down.  After I would break free, I would jump up, exhausted, scared to lay back down again.  Some nights, I could lay back down and go to sleep, other nights, I would lay back down, and immediately experience it again, and again...  Up to several times in a row, up to probably 10 times.  It completely had me freaked out.

On some occasions, after fighting for control of my body, I would break free, or at least think I did, and sit up, stand up, even walk out of the room, only to at some point turn and see my own body laying in bed.  At which time would ultimately freak me out, and I would jump back into my body and immediately begin the fight.

When I first started the experiences, the fighting was longer and more difficult, towards the end of my experiences, the fights were shorter, and I left my body more frequently.

One evening, at my parents house, my mother and I were laying on sofas watching T.V. together when I suddenly found myself going into this state.  After fighting for my life to stop it, I jumped up and freaked out, like I always did, and my actions caught the attention of my mother.  I explained to my mother what I had just experienced.  I was surprised when she accepted my strange experience without question, and simply referred me to speak with my father about this, because he had experienced this in the past.

Of course I immediately went to my father and discovered that when he was a younger man, early 30's, over the course of a couple of years, that he experienced a similar thing.  Only he loved them, he said it filled him with knowledge, and he was not frightened in the least by them.  Okay, so here is the strangest part about it, at that time we were were living in Detroit.  I have always had a vivid memories of believing there was a ghost in the house, because between the age of 4 - 6 I clearly recalled a spirit visiting me in my room at night.  The spirit did not have a form, but rather its presence was very strong.  I did not speak with anyone about it, because it did not scare me.  I was only frightened by it once when it moved a sock and picked it up off the floor and into the air.  I recall having a connection with this spirit, as if we could read each others minds.

I always retained this memory, however, had come to think of it as more of a dream.  The correlation of this event and my fathers OBE's did not hit me at this time though, but rather later in a conversation with my sister on the phone.

We had stuck up a conversation about when we lived in Detroit, and our home there.  When my sister suddenly told me that her strongest memory of the house was the ghost that used to visit us in our room at night.  I totally freaked out, because I had no idea that she had this same experience, it was not something that either of us had discussed with another previously.  She too did not feel threatened by the spirit.

Then I thought to myself, could the spirit have been my fathers when he had left his body, the time frame was exactly the same.  Another experience that was out of the ordinary was when I was falling asleep (day-time nap), next to my boyfriend at that time, only I effortlessly left my body, which had never happened, and I drifted up into the sky, way up, with the planes and the birds and then I looked and my boyfriend was there with me, and I was shocked, and I felt that he was shocked, and I immediately re-entered my body.

Okay, so one would think this was a dream, only when I sat up out of bed, at the same instance, so did he, and at the same time, we recounted to each other the exact same experience.

This happened to us about 4 - 5 times in a row, before we finally took a nap.  This experience made him a believer that the experiences I had been recounting to him in the past where real (he was usually the one calming me down at night when I experienced them, thinking that I was a Fruit Loop/Crazy).

The experiences stopped when things in my life settled down.  From what I understand, at the time of my fathers experiences, he was stressed out from being a work-a-holic, and myself, I had tons of stress from a relationship that was going down hill.  When the relationship was finally over, and I moved on, the experiences stopped completely.

I also think worth noting, is an experience that my daughter had when she was 4 years old.  She had to have surgery, a small one, nothing serious.  The doctors had to escort her away, and she was wailing and crying, reaching out her arms for me, she was terrified, as would most 4 year olds.  When the procedure was over with, that same day, she recounted to me about how she was watching the doctors from a corner on the ceiling and told me words that they had said.  My experiences, nor my fathers, where never shared with my daughter.  Discussions of supernatural experiences rarely, if ever would come up in our household, so I am confident that she did not make up this experience.  Could this ability run in the family???

In some ways I am sad that the experiences have ended, even though they frightened me, because they were also very intriguing.
