Experience description:

My father was in the Air force and had was sent to Vietnam the summer of 1970 so my mom and three brothers and I lived without him.

Shortly after my dad was stationed/sent to Vietnam his brother (my uncle and family) went to the Philippines & Hong Kong on vacation and afterwards sent us some mementos of their vacation which included several tribal-looking knives and masks which we boys thought were cool so we decided to make a display of them.

My mom didn't especially like the gifts because she felt they were somehow frightening-looking.

One night shortly after making the wall display of the knives and masks my mother awoke in the night and went to get something to drink from the kitchen. Upon passing the display she suddenly got a sharp stabbing pain in her back.... which alarmed and frightened her. She returned to her room and being alone without her husband and frightened sat in bed and began praying while reading her bible.

At this time I was sound asleep in my room totally unaware of her situation.

I was awakened by a man/angel/being made of phosphorescent-like light standing at the foot of my bed which spoke saying: 'Butch (my nickname), Butch, wake up - your mother needs you.' While speaking he raised his arm and pointed at me and caused my spirit to rise up out of my body... then directed/floated it (me/my spirit) up and across my room to my doorway then into the hall... standing me in my mother's room's doorway, whereupon I stood and saw my mother sitting up in bed reading her bible which was in her lap.

He then directed by floating self back to my bed where I floated back into my body.

I immediately got up; out of bed walked to my mother's room and stood exactly where I had been only seconds before..standing in the same doorway as I had in spirit whereupon my mom looked somewhat suprised upon seeing me there.

Thinking I might be sick or something (it was unusual for me to be awake at 2:45 am) she said, 'what's wrong?'

I told her what had happened. She started crying immediately when I told her 'a man stood at the foot of my bed and woke me up. He said: 'Butch, Butch wake up...your mother needs you'.

My mom had been praying for God to comfort her and remove her fear the very moment before she replied.

The experience was real and no dream. I realized shortly later that the 'man' made of light that directed my floating spirit was an angel or Jesus. As he pointed at me with his hand my spirit lifted up out of my sleeping body and glided across the room standing me in my mom's doorway then back across my room and back into my body. I'll never forget it. The experience was as real as writing this about it.

Needless to say we disposed of the masks and knives later that morning.

 Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?      No     

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words?        No     

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?       No     

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?    My body was asleep but I ( me/my spirit was totally awake.

            Was the experience dream like in any way?           Not in that sense. It was not a dream but I was awakened from sleep.

 Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?         Yes    I was me....but not in my body.

 What emotions did you feel during the experience?           No fear during but surprised, fear afterwards.

 Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?           No

 LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?           Yes    Everything in house was real both in my body and out of it.

 Did you see a light?         Yes    In the form of a being with the shape of a man.

 Did you meet or see any other beings?         Yes           Angel-like form of a man made of light with no distinct edge. His form was composed of phosphorescent-like light.

 Did you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state?    Yes   

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?        Yes   

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?  Yes    Felt the same but without physicality.

 Did you have any sense of altered space or time?           No     

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?           No     

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?              No     

Did you become aware of future events?      No     

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?     Yes    Go to my mom.

 Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?        No     

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?         No     

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?           No real change. What will be will be.
