Experience description:

I have to emphasize that I haven't been in a life threatening condition or anything close as far as I know during the following story. However I find it very unconventional, like something that has its own meaning or purpose. There are some elements similar to NDEs, and I've never experienced them before or after the event I recall as a dream. I've read some very similar stories on this site in the last few weeks, and a local guy just wrote me he had the same experience. So these are the main reasons I'm sharing my story.

I was about 7 or 8 years old. Regardless my baptism I haven't received a religious education, I knew very little about Christianity or religion at all at the time. I was brought up in a non-believer family under Socialism in Hungary by a biochemist mother and father. Religious questions were most often summarized as the following: 'There are some religions in the world with different Gods that people believe in. Most Hungarians believe in God and his son, Jesus Christ.' There was a kind of disturbing image of an ancient tribal mask in one of my books, so sometimes I dreamt with that face peering inside from the window: all of these dreams were terrifying.

However in this particular 'dream' I found myself in a very bright, white place, with nothing material I can remember of. There were no borders, no real dimensions, I can't recall anything familiar. I can only remember some very strong emotions, very pure happiness, joy, excitement, some kind of wholeness, with no pain or fear at all. (I'd always been a very nervous child in real life with heightened - both positive and negative - feelings.) I wasn't even afraid of being away from my home, let alone my parents, being at a distant, unknown and very curious place. There was someone, some sort of friend I believe, who "guided me" through the place. We knew very well, the time had been coming for us to see God's face. I didn't know what that meant, but I knew instantly that this was the only thing I ever needed, the purpose of my life. I felt like a chosen member of a community, like undergoing some kind of initiation process, but this didn't include any negative feelings such as arrogance or pride. Everything was so calm.

I considered this a 'normal' dream later on, nevertheless I never had such a special dream since then or ever before.

At the time of your experience was there an associated life-threatening event?   No

Was the experience difficult to express in words?  Uncertain     I can't express my feelings well. I have never experienced so strong emotions in my life.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?    It was a dreamlike experience so all the time or never - I cannot answer.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness?      Less consciousness and alertness than normal   Somehow my senses were different.

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience.
Vision wasn't important, feelings and knowledge played the most important part.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience.
I don't remember sounds, somehow I always knew all the things I had to know.

Did you see or hear any earthly events that were occurring during a time that your consciousness / awareness was apart from your physical / earthly body?   No

What emotions did you feel during the experience?   Pure joy and excitement. Every feeling of mine was extremely pure, I was happy and thankful to be there and were looking forward to the future, and especially for meeting with God.

Did you pass into or through a tunnel?   Uncertain   After reading some experiences, an expression caught my eye, about entering the tunnel. I just can't place it anywhere, somehow I find it very familiar, as it has happened to me once. But I don't have memories of it related to this event.

Did you see an unearthly light?   Uncertain   Everything was pure and white.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice?   I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin
I was helped by a friend, he (she?) informed me what came next. I wasn't told in the familiar way, somehow my thoughts were lead by him/her.

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)?   Uncertain   I don't know who my 'friend' (or spiritual helper) was.

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings?   No

Did you become aware of past events in your life during your experience?   No

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world?   A clearly mystical or unearthly realm
I don't remember entering it, I just found myself there.

Did time seem to speed up or slow down?   Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning
I can't describe the time I spent 'there', it might have been days or much less. There were no clocks, daily routines, nothing was changing.

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything?   Everything about myself or others
I understood that the greatest joy was to see God's face, or to be one who deserves to see it.

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?   Uncertain
Maybe meeting with God was a boundary, but that eventually didn't happen.

Did you come to a border or point of no return?   No

Did scenes from the future come to you?  No

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness suggesting that there either is (or is not) continued existence after earthly life (life after death)?   Uncertain   It clearly told me that life continues after death in a different way, but since I've always thought about this experience as a dream, I wouldn't say that for sure.

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness that God or a supreme being either does (or does not) exist?   Yes   I was one who was selected to see his face. (Maybe all others had been allowed as well, I didn't know that then.)

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness that you either did (or did not) exist prior to this lifetime?   No

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness that a mystical universal connection or unity/oneness either does (or does not) exist?   No

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness regarding earthly lifes meaning or purpose?   Uncertain

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness regarding earthly lifes difficulties, challenges, or hardships?   No

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness regarding love?   Uncertain   Love was the most important feeling and meaning of the whole experience.

During your experience, did you encounter any other specific information / awareness that you have not shared in other questions that is relevant to living our earthly lives?   No

Did you have a sense of knowing special knowledge or purpose?   Yes   Maybe the purpose is to live the way to be able to get to heavens and meet God face to face.

What occurred during your experience included:   Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience   I knew nothing about God or any kind of Heaven or afterlife at all.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience?   I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience   Many details have been lost on the way as in a dream, but I remember it more clearly then any other dreams in my life. I can't even place it in the time of my early life, it 'stands out'.

Discuss any changes that might have occurred in your life after your experience:   Nothing has changed for a long time, and current changes are not due to that experience I believe. I've always been more open to spiritual matters than my family, but I don't know why.

My experience directly resulted in:   Unknown

Did you have any changes in your values or beliefs after the experience that occurred as a result of the experience?
No

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you?   It could have been a dream to show me the way I should follow in the rest of my life.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience?   No

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you?
It could have been a dream to show me the way I should follow in the rest of my life.

Have you ever shared this experience with others?
Yes  I was told it was a nice and interesting dream. That's all.

A couple of weeks ago I posted the story on a local website and a guy wrote me who had a very similar dream.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?   No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:   Experience was definitely not real   I considered it an odd dream and it didn't fit anywhere.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience at the current time:   Experience was probably not real   I still consider it a dream, however the details make me wonder about it.

Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your experience?   No

Have your religious beliefs/spiritual practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?   Uncertain   Not right after anyway; I've always been closer to religion than my parents, but never became a real believer.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience?   Yes   I felt similar joy for instants for a couple of years right after, but that eventually stopped to happen.

Did the questions asked and information that you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?   Yes
